About American Civil War

In 1854, the Kansas-Nebraska Act opened up new lands in the American West and led to a territorial dispute between pro-slavery and anti-slavery factions. This dispute eventually led to the American Civil War (1861- 1865). The war was fought between the Confederate States of America, made up of 11 southern states that seceded from the United States, and the Union states, made up of 23 northern states.
