Mental Health
What is Mental Health?
Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood.
Mental health is a state of well-being in which an individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to his or her community.
There are various factors that contribute to mental health. These include our biological make-up, our life experiences, and our relationships with others. We also need to feel a sense of control over our lives and feel like we are making a meaningful contribution.
There are a number of warning signs that can indicate a mental health problem. These include feeling down or hopeless for more than two weeks, loss of interest in activities that used to bring pleasure, significant weight loss or gain, difficulty sleeping or sleeping too much, restlessness or feeling slowed down, fatigue, feelings of worthlessness or excessive guilt, difficulty concentrating, or recurrent thoughts of death or suicide.
If you or someone you know is experiencing any of these warning signs, it is important to seek professional help. There are a number of effective treatments available for mental health problems.
Mental health is an important part of overall health. It is essential to promote and maintain mental health in all stages of life.
