About Contemporary Art

In the art world, "contemporary" describes works made and produced by artists living today. "Contemporary art" is used to describe art made since World War II. It generally includes art made since the 1960s, but may also include earlier works. Contemporary art is often thought of as art that is "of our time."

Different art movements since the 1960s have informed contemporary art. These include, but are not limited to, minimalism, pop art, and Conceptual art. In addition, contemporary artists often engage with society and the world around them, commenting on issues such as politics, religion, and consumerism.

While traditional art forms such as painting, sculpture, and printmaking are still practiced by contemporary artists, many also work in new media, such as video, performance, and installation. Additionally, contemporary artists often make use of digital technology in their work.

In the last two decades, contemporary art has become a more prominent feature in the world of art. This is largely due to the growing popularity of the internet and social media, which has made it easier for people to access and share information about art.

There are many different styles of contemporary art, but some of the most common include abstract art, conceptual art, digital art, and video art. Contemporary artists often seek to challenge traditional notions of what art is, and they often use new technology and materials to create their work.
