About 2nd Grade Math Curriculum

The 2nd grade math curriculum should cover all of the basic operations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. In addition, it should introduce concepts such as place value, fractions, and geometry. There should be ample opportunity for students to practice what they are learning through hands-on activities and real-world problem solving.

The focus of 2nd grade math is on mastering addition and subtraction within 20, solving problems with money and other measurement units, developing understandings of place value, and introduces multiplication and division. By the end of 2nd grade, students should be able to fluently add and subtract within 20, represent and solve problems involving addition and subtraction, use place value concepts to fluently add and subtract within 100, and have an understanding of multiplication and division.
