Zlomko - Visual Fractions Practice
Zlomko is a free fractions and decimals trainer for children roughly aged 9 to 12, built by the Czech studio Yellow Bench and available in English as well as Czech. It is deliberately small: you pick a topic, pick a length of five or ten questions, and work through a short visual round. There is no account to create, no advertising anywhere in the app, and no score to defend.
The topic list is the part worth looking at, because it maps onto the places fractions actually go wrong. Part of a whole works through shading, so a fraction is a picture before it is a pair of numbers. Number line places fractions and decimals as positions rather than quantities, which is the representation most curricula under-practise and the one that makes comparison make sense later. Equivalent fractions is a fill-in-the-blank drill, Comparison asks which of two values is larger, and In practice puts fractions into money and quantity problems. A Mix option draws from all of them.
Two design choices make this unusually suitable for an anxious or reluctant learner. The default is Calm mode, which has no timer and no leaderboard at all; a Timed mode exists but you have to go and choose it. And the app tracks which questions you got wrong and offers a Review mistakes round built only from those, so a bad session turns into a targeted second attempt rather than a repeat of everything. A rotating daily challenge gives the same ten-question set to everyone for that day.
Progress is stored on the device rather than in an account, and the privacy panel is explicit about it: optional anonymous usage measurement is off unless an adult turns it on, and even then it records only topic, mode, length and whether the daily challenge was used, never answers, scores, times or any identifier. A short built-in explainer covers how fractions work as parts of a whole, as equivalent values and as positions on a line, which gives a parent something to point at when the practice stalls. Zlomko is free on the web and as an iPhone and iPad app, with an Android version listed as under review.
