SteadySteps Math

SteadySteps Math is an iPhone and iPad app that turns a child's wrong answers into the next thing they practice. It opens with a short required placement check to find a sensible starting skill, then adapts each day's work to recent accuracy, to which answers were independent versus supported, and to skills that are due for review. A daily session begins with three math facts and closes with a short recap of what was covered.

The feature that distinguishes it from a drill app is Teach Me. When a question is hard, the child can ask for a lesson specific to that question, which walks through the method in steps without handing over the answer, and a full-screen scratchpad gives room to work the problem out. The app records supported and independent answers separately, so a parent can see the difference between a skill a child has and a skill they can only reach with help. That distinction is the useful one when deciding what to reteach, and most practice apps collapse it.

For the parent side, Parent Plan takes a recently missed answer and assembles a focused ten-minute session around it, with follow-up work queued behind it. A progress report can be previewed and shared as a PDF generated on the device, which suits families who report to a tutor, a co-op teacher or an umbrella school. Content coverage spans arithmetic, math facts, money, time, fractions, geometry, unit conversions, introductory algebra and data.

Two things to know before downloading. First, the app is iPhone and iPad only; the publisher says Android is coming but there is no Google Play listing yet. Second, the download is free but an auto-renewing subscription of $9.99 per month is required after onboarding, so the placement check is effectively the trial. On the other hand, no account is needed and learner profiles, answers and progress stay on the device, which is a reasonable trade for families who would rather not create yet another login for a nine year old. The publisher also keeps a free parent guide on its website about running a ten-minute reset when homework stalls, readable without the app.
