Anime Art Academy
Anime Art Academy is an online drawing school for anime and manga, run from Tokyo and taught by Japanese professional animators, illustrators and manga artists. The lessons are video lectures presented in English, and the part that sets it apart is the feedback: after each lesson the student draws the assignment, uploads it, and a Japanese professional sends back written advice and red-line corrections drawn directly over the work.
The courses cover the core skills of the style. Students learn to draw anime faces and expressions, hairstyles, bodies and dynamic poses, clothing, and coloring with light and shadow. Beginner material starts from simple shapes and proportions, and the advanced packs take faces, anatomy and posing toward a professional finish. Most lessons need only paper and a pencil, so a student can start without a tablet or drawing software; a small number of coloring lessons use digital tools.
There are two ways to pay. The subscription courses add new lessons each month: the standard How to Draw Anime and Manga course is $47 per month, and the Premium and Premium Advanced editions, which add practice files and live demonstrations, are $68 per month. One-off lesson packs give lifetime access instead and run from about $306 to $646 each, with bundles of several packs priced lower than buying them separately. A free trial course, which includes personal feedback, lets a family try the format before paying anything.
The school says there is no age limit and that most of its students are 8 and up, which makes it a fit for upper elementary, middle school and high school art, as well as for teens and adults who want structured practice. For homeschool families it works well as an art elective or as an interest-led course for a child who already draws anime characters on every scrap of paper. The professional critique is the real value here: it is the kind of one-to-one correction that is hard to find outside a studio class.
Things to know: it teaches one style in depth rather than general art, the full courses are a meaningful monthly or upfront cost, and parents will want to look through the free trial with younger children to judge whether the pace and content suit them.
