The Couplet (shown on its site and in the app stores as Couplet) is a listening practice app for English speakers learning French, Spanish, Japanese, German, Cantonese, Korean, Mandarin or Arabic. It runs on the web, on iPhone and on Android. Practice is organized into finite topic decks, each built around one real situation such as ordering at a restaurant, giving your phone number or talking about emotions, and every deck has a last card.

Each card is a sentence pair. The learner hears the sentence in English, then hears it in the new language in a natural target-language voice, with the current word highlighted as it plays. For example, "Could we see the menu, please?" is paired with its French version. Tapping any word opens a short deep-dive with its meaning, a literal breakdown and a memory hook, and the word can be added to a review deck. Cards can advance on their own, a deck can play in the background like a podcast, and decks can be downloaded for offline listening.

The design is deliberately calm. There is no streak to protect and no endless feed: when you reach the last card, the topic is marked finished and added to your collection, and a review feature brings cards back after a gap. The site lists more than 1,000 topics, along with free listening guides on meaning-first listening, shadowing, beginner listening and practicing during a commute. Learners can also flip the direction to practice English from any of the eight languages.

Six complete decks are free with no account or card: Hello and Goodbye, Please and Thank You, Introducing Yourself, Numbers and Counting, Telling the Time, and Days and Dates. A free account adds three starter decks of your choice. Full access costs $9 a month, $50 a year, or $149 once for a lifetime purchase.

For homeschool families, The Couplet works well as a short daily listening routine for a high schooler or adult alongside a main language course or curriculum. Its decks build listening comprehension and familiarity with useful phrases for specific situations. It is not a full grammar or writing program, and the site itself notes that a single deck is a focused practice session rather than a path to fluency on its own.
