StudyEaseHaven
StudyEaseHaven is a free study tool for anyone who reads from PDFs: a textbook chapter, a paper, or a slide deck exported to PDF. You drop the file into the reading pane, highlight the passages that matter, and each highlight becomes an editable note in the panel beside it in real time. The point of the tool is what happens next, which is that the same set of highlights can be rendered in five different note-taking structures.
The five are Outline, which groups notes under shared headings with sub-headings nested as deep as you like; Cornell, which splits the page into cues, notes and a summary; Boxing, which isolates each idea in its own visual block; Question & Answer, which converts statements into a self-testing format; and Slip-box, which turns each highlight into an atomic note for later linking. You switch between them freely, and what is on screen is what exports, so the export is your notes rather than the raw PDF text dumped back out.
For a homeschooling family this is most useful in the years when a student has to move from being taught material to processing it independently. The five structures are not decoration: Cornell and Question & Answer are built for retrieval practice, Outline is built for hierarchy, and Slip-box is built for connecting ideas across sources. Having them side by side on the same passage makes the differences between them concrete, which is a hard thing to teach in the abstract, and lets a student find the one that actually fits how they think rather than the one their curriculum happened to prescribe.
Practical details matter here too. There is no account and no signup, files are processed in the browser rather than uploaded to a server, and access is free with no trial period. A Pomodoro timer is built into the page so a study block can be run without leaving the tool, and every generated note stays editable rather than being locked to whatever the highlighter produced. The site is a self-contained web app; there is nothing to install.
