MindGrid Free World Geography Puzzle Pack

The Free World Geography Puzzle Pack is a 12-page printable PDF from MindGrid Books, a publisher of geography and puzzle books for children. It is written for students ages 8 to 14, roughly grades 4 to 8, and it is free to download with no email or signup.

The pack has an introduction page, nine one-page activities and a two-page answer key. Each activity prints on its own page in black and white on US Letter paper, so you can hand out a single sheet or work through the whole set. The activities cover the seven continents and five oceans, naming countries from numbered dots on an outline map, matching countries to continents, matching countries to capitals, placing well-known physical features such as mountains and rivers, linking famous landmarks to their countries, and sorting landmarks into natural and built.

Two activities go beyond recall. A reasoning page asks students to work out answers from clues about hemispheres, seasons and the direction of a journey, and a map-skills page uses an invented island to practice grid references, compass directions and scale.

MindGrid suggests about five to ten minutes per activity, or 30 to 45 minutes for a lesson built from several. All you need is a printer and pencils, and an atlas or globe helps. The page itself also explains each skill in plain language, which is useful if you are teaching geography for the first time.
