Elective Unit Studies: Whales

In this comprehensive and multisensory 214 page unit study, your children will explore much more than whales! This unit study takes your child on a journey to learn about the evolution, hunting and future of whales as well as the locations, properties and attributes of the world’s five oceans. Children will draw, paint, compare and build whale models while exploring the different species and their ocean habitats. While on their journey, children will also examine ocean currents, ocean weather patterns, classifications of mammals, echolocation, thermoregulation, buoyancy, subsistence hunting, whale mythology, El Niño, observation skills, whales in literature and folklore, Herman Melville, Rudyard Kipling, oceanography, species comparison models, Native American art, the St. Lawrence River, commercial whaling, coral reefs, underwater photography, and so much more!
