Comprehensive Review of History and Classic Literature

Our 5th Grade students begin to draw connections between subject matter such as American History, Literature, and Geography by reading classic novels, such as Sing Down the Moon and The Sign of the Beaver. Essential writing skills continue to develop through this curriculum including paragraphing, outlining, and summarizing. Your child will write original reports, stories, and essays using the lessons about sentence types in our grammar unit.

Two different math options are available with our 5th Grade curriculum: 1) Calvert Math, a traditional math program where students learn perimeter, area, and volume, multiply and divide up to three digits, understand geometry points, lines, and rays, measure angles, add mixed numerals and decimals, and begin studying statistics, graphing and probability or 2) Math in Focus, a new, modernized math approach where students compare and order numbers up to 100,000, use multiplying and dividing by tens, hundreds, and thousands, read and write ratios, simplify algebraic expressions, and determine the surface area and volume of three dimensional shapes.
