European Geography
What is European Geography?
Europe is a continent located entirely in the Northern Hemisphere and mostly in the Eastern Hemisphere. It is bordered by the Arctic Ocean to the north, the Atlantic Ocean to the west, the Mediterranean Sea to the south, and Asia to the east. Europe is the world's second-smallest continent by area, covering about 10,180,000 square kilometers or 2% of the Earth's surface. Europe is the third-most populous continent after Asia and Africa, with a population of more than 731 million or about 11% of the world's population.
The physical geography of Europe is varied, with a myriad of islands, peninsulas, rivers, mountains and other landforms. The European climate is also diverse, ranging from the subpolar Arctic in the north to the Mediterranean climate in the south.
Europeans have a long history of interaction with the rest of the world. Europeans were some of the first to explore the Americas, Africa and Asia, and have had a significant impact on the history and culture of these regions.
