OffLadder
OffLadder is a career exploration tool for teenagers and adults who do not know what they want to do next. Most career quizzes end with a label: a personality type, a Holland code or a list of matching job titles. OffLadder takes a different approach. It asks a few questions about what you would rather spend an hour doing, then suggests directions worth investigating and a small real-world experiment for each one, typically about 20 minutes of work you can do on paper, so you find out what the work actually feels like before committing to it.
A typical suggestion looks like this: a student who notices they are always the one organizing the group chat and the playlist might be pointed toward live event production or logistics, and asked to plan a one-day festival on a single page, including the schedule, the budget and what to do when a food truck cancels at 10am. The point is to notice which parts they want to keep doing and which parts they avoid.
For homeschooling families this fits the high school years, when a teen is choosing electives, thinking about college or trades, or simply has no idea where their interests lead. The experiments make good independent assignments and natural dinner-table conversations, and they suit families who prefer learning by doing over testing.
Things to know before you start. You can see your first directions without an account, but ongoing use requires one. The tool includes an AI coach called Laddie that remembers your conversations so its suggestions stay personal; the privacy page says this data is used only to personalize coaching. It is for ages 13 and up and stops if a user selects under 13. The core tool is free, with a limit of 11 coach messages per day; an optional membership at $9 a month or $79 a year removes that limit. OffLadder is new and does not yet have a public track record, so a parent may want to try it alongside their teen first.
