Grammar and Punctuation (UC Irvine)

Grammar and Punctuation is a free online course from the University of California, Irvine, offered on Coursera as the first course in the Academic English: Writing specialization. It is designed for learners who already read and write in English and want a clear, structured review of the grammar and punctuation rules that shape strong, accurate writing.

Over roughly sixteen hours of material, the course works through the building blocks of clear sentences: verb tenses and how to use them consistently, sentence structure and how to avoid run-ons and fragments, comma usage, parallel structure, and techniques for adding sentence variety. Each unit combines short video lectures with downloadable handouts and practice exercises, so learners can study at their own pace and apply each rule immediately.
