Evan-Moor Daily Reading Comprehension, Grade 4
Evan-Moor Daily Reading Comprehension Grade 4 continues the proven daily-practice format with 150 lessons designed for the demands of fourth-grade reading. At this level, students encounter longer and more complex passages, more challenging vocabulary, and questions that require deeper analytical thinking — reflecting the jump in reading expectations that occurs in the upper-elementary grades.
The workbook follows the same effective weekly structure as other levels in the series: strategy-focused lessons Monday through Thursday, followed by a comprehensive Friday passage that combines multiple strategies. Strategies at the fourth-grade level include author's purpose, text structure, summarizing multi-paragraph texts, making inferences from implied information, comparing and contrasting across texts, and distinguishing between fact and opinion.
Passages span fiction, nonfiction, poetry, drama, and functional texts, with an increased emphasis on informational text that reflects real-world reading demands. Topics are selected to be engaging for nine- and ten-year-olds while also building background knowledge in science, history, geography, and current events. The vocabulary in context exercises help students develop word-learning strategies beyond simple memorization.
Homeschool parents value Daily Reading Comprehension Grade 4 for its low-prep, high-impact format. The 10–15 minutes of daily practice fits easily into any homeschool schedule, and the explicit strategy instruction means parents do not need to be reading experts to teach comprehension effectively. The teacher notes explain each strategy clearly, and the answer key includes explanations for why answers are correct.
