About Forensic Science

Forensic scientists collect, preserve, and analyze scientific evidence during the course of an investigation. While some forensic scientists travel to the scene of the crime to collect the evidence themselves, others work in the laboratory examining evidence that has already been collected.

Forensic science generally refers to the collection, preservation, and analysis of scientific evidence during the course of an investigation. The evidence they collect may be of a physical or biological nature, and it is often used to help solve crimes.

Forensic scientists often work with police detectives, lawyers, and other law enforcement officials to help solve crimes.

Forensic science is the application of science to criminal and civil laws, mainly—on the criminal side—during criminal investigation, as governed by the legal standards of admissible evidence and criminal procedure.
