Home Study Companion Geometry
HSC Geometry is a complete high school Geometry course based on the exceptional, but now out of print text, Geometry: A Guided Inquiry, by Chakerian, Crabill, and Stein. (A digital copy of the text is included with the course. ) This course is special in that it presents geometry in a problem-solving context, making it a very engaging approach. (Parents who had a traditional geometry course in school will find this an interesting course to “take again” along with their homeschooled children.)
Who is it for?
This course is designed for students who have studied Algebra 1 or adults seeking to fill in their math background to further their education.
This is a full, college preparatory, high school level Geometry course. The approach is non-traditional, but course covers all the traditional topics, and then some. The chapter introductions, solutions, dynamic demonstrations, and commentary are provided by David Chandler, a teacher with 35 years experience in public, private, and international schools.
The focus of the course is full understanding and the ability to apply geometric concepts to further math courses and real-world applications. This is not just a watered down or “test prep” course. It is the real deal.
This is part of a sequence of courses from Algebra 1 through A.P. Calculus provided by Math Without Borders.
This course is provided on an 8 GB USB flash drive containing the complete textbook, a video introduction to each chapter, pdf solution guides (with extra commentary) for the Central and Project sections of the chapter, complete video solutions for all problems in the Review section, and a large collection of annotated Geogebra demonstrations for the Central and Project sections. (Geogebra is a powerful software tool for dynamic geometry demonstrations and problem solving. It is free to download for Windows, Mac, and Linux computers from Geogebra.org.)
