About Polish

Polish is a Slavic language spoken by over 38 million people around the world, making it one of the world's most widely-spoken languages. Polish has a rich history and culture, and is one of the official languages of the European Union.

It is the official language of Poland and is also recognized as a minority language in a number of other countries, including the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Lithuania, and Ukraine. While the language has suffered somewhat from a reputation for being difficult to learn, the grammar is actually not nearly as complicated as that of other languages such as Russian or English. With a little patience and practice, anybody should be able to master the basics of Polish.

Although Poles commonly speak English, learning Polish can benefit anyone who wishes to visit or live in Poland. With a little practice, you can quickly master the basics of this Slavic language.

Polish is a Romance language, similar to French, Spanish and Italian, but with some Slavic influence. As such, it has a Latin alphabet with additional letters. Pronunciation is fairly straightforward, with each letter representing one sound.

Basic Polish grammar is not too difficult to grasp. There are no articles (a, the) and word order is relatively flexible. Nouns have genders (masculine, feminine, neuter) and there are three genders of pronouns (he, she, it). Verbs conjugate according to person, number and tense.
